Everything you need to know before you go.
What are the dates of the event?
Smoke on the Plains takes place Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12, 2027, at High Park.
Friday: 6–10 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and 6–10 p.m.
The festival pauses Saturday afternoon between the competition activities and evening entertainment.

High Park in Derby Kansas

Is festival admission free?
All activities at the event are free with the exception of food, drinks and the People’s Choice Tasting Contest.
Where is festival parking?
There are several paved parking lots inside the park. There will also be parking on the east side of the park (enter from Madison Street). Designated ADA parking is available next to the Zimmerman Shelter. Vehicles without the necessary tag or placard in this lot will be removed at owner’s expense.
Can I taste competition barbecue?
Yes! The People’s Choice Tasting Contest is your only opportunity to sample competition bbq and will be held Friday evening, June 11. Learn more about the People's Choice Tasting Contest.
Is seating provided?
Limited seating may be available near food and entertainment areas. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
Is the festival accessible?
Accessible parking and restroom facilities are available. Festival activities take place throughout High Park on a mix of paved paths and grassy areas.
Are restrooms available?
Portable restrooms and handwashing stations will be located throughout the festival grounds. Accessible restrooms will also be available.
Do vendors accept cash or cards?
Payment options vary by vendor. Guests are encouraged to bring both cash and a card.
Can I bring a cooler?
Coolers are not allowed. Beverages can be purchased from the Beer Garden, Shaken or Stirred Bartending, First Man Brewery or any of the food trucks.
Are pets allowed?
You may bring your dog as long as you are a responsible dog owner. Dogs must be on leashes and well behaved. Please clean up after your dog! Dog owners who bring aggressive/unruly dogs or those who don't clean up after their dogs will be asked to leave.

Are there activities for kids?
Yes, and they are all free. Find information about the Kids Corner.
What should I bring?
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, sunscreen and weather-appropriate clothing. Shade is limited, so plan accordingly.
What happens if it rains?
Smoke on the Plains is held rain or shine. Schedule changes or weather-related updates will be posted on the festival website and official social media channels.
Is alcohol available?
Beer and other adult beverages will be available for purchase by guests age 21 and older with valid identification. Outside alcohol is not permitted.
Can I leave and come back?
Yes. Guests may leave and return during festival hours.
