Ancillary Pie Contest Registration
A pie is defined as a baked dish composed of a pastry dough casing (crust) that contains a sweet or savory filling, which can be fully enclosed or open-topped. It is characterized by its filling and crust structure, typically served in a round shape, and can include fruit or custard.
Rules
- Homemade crust and filling only. No store-bought pies.
- All sweet pies will be accepted including but not limited to fruit pies, custard/cream pies, nut pies, chocolate pies.
- This is a blind judging; all decisions of the judges are final.
- Each pie entry must contain a minimum of 8 servings. Judges will cut pie prior to judging.
- Pies entries are to be prepared prior to arrival and not baked on site.
- Health rules do apply and proper food handling is required.
- No alcohol unless clearly labeled.
- Pie entries must be turned in between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. at the Judges Tent.
- Pies must not contain any branding or identifying marks.
Judging & Prizes
Crust 25% | Filling Flavor 35% | Appearance 20% | Creativity 20%.
Judging will be done by a panel of Kansas City Barbeque Society judges.
Awards will be announced on June 13 at 3:00 p.m. at the Don Hattan Derby Mainstage on June 13. Prizes will be given to the top three finishers.
